I’ve previously complained about the Canon G9’s oversharpened JPEGs. Does the E-620 have this problem? The following are 300% crops of text on paper:

E-620 lowest sharpening |
At the default setting, the E-620 image has observable sharpening halos, but the problem is much less severe at the lowest setting of -2, with the output looking significantly less processed the the Canon G9. The default setting is reasonable given that unsophisticated consumers like the sharpened look better, and more experienced photographers can simply adjust the settings.
HOWEVER, even at -2 the E-620 is applying a heavy amount of sharpening, which can be seen if you set the Noise Filter to Off because that causes all of the noise to be sharpened. This is demonstrated in my E-620 ISO 3200 test. The only way to turn off the sharpening is to shoot RAW.
